King’s Gate London was birthed out of a desire to see a fivefold ministry church established and flourishing, led by apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers and evangelists, as described in Ephesians 4:11-13.
Ian and Jane McCormack had served the body of Christ in various capacities for 30 years, all the while incubating a vision in their hearts for a new wineskin of church leadership that the Lord had given them. While in New Zealand they felt the Lord tell them to move to London to plant a new church, so in 2007 they brought their family to the UK. Initially they lived in Hertfordshire and Ian served as an itinerate speaker, preaching and giving his testimony around the country. Ian was asked to speak at Pip & Sophie Earl’s Miracle House meeting, which was also attended by Richard & Luellen Mayhew and Jennifer O'Brien. Following the lead of the Holy Spirit Ian shared his vision for a church with a shared leadership that would allow every church member to be fully released into their gifts, based around the church in Acts. The Lord had laid that same vision in the hearts of others in that room and they discovered a mutual passion to see it become a reality.
In 2008 this group, along with Russell & Geraldine (who Ian and Jane had met on a previous ministry trip), started meeting once a week in the Fetter Lane Moravian Chapel with around 40 others. The group felt an immediate connection with the heart of the Moravian church to be a community that passionately pursued the presence of God. Others began to join the gatherings, drawn in by the Lord.
There was no agenda to these meetings but to meet with the Lord and each other. Time was spent sharing testimonies, waiting on the Lord, and laying down personal ministries and agendas in order to embrace God’s heart for a corporate calling and ministry. The emphasis was on being rather than doing in God’s presence in preparation for what was to come, and the group experienced the manifest presence of God. These meetings set the foundation for King’s Gate London that ministry comes out of relationship with God and from a place of rest rather than of striving. Within the gathered group prophets and apostles were appointed to leadership roles with a goal to add teachers, evangelists and pastors as God leads. After nine months God impressed it upon the team to start an open service at Baden Powell House in Knightsbridge (the church’s current location).
Kings Gate London is not about one individual’s ministry but about corporate ministry where each person prefers one another. Each individual is blessed in their uniqueness and encouraged to fulfil their potential rather than be stifled into uniformity. This comes from a belief that God commands His blessing where there is unity in diversity (Psalm 133) and each member of the family is called to lay down their lives for Jesus and for one another. It is core to the value of the church that different people are given the opportunity to preach and teach so that the family benefits from the wisdom and revelation God has given across the church.
As a church we feel we are completing the foundational stages of our story and we look forward to great growth in faith, love and maturity in the years to come. We feel incredibly excited by all the Lord has for us as a church and believe we are about to cross over into some extraordinary moves of God for this city and for the nations.
